Former Renter

Mr. Alonso was the property manager for the last couple years of an apartment my wife and I were renting at the South building of the Willoughby in Friendship Village. Though the building itself was a high maintenance, and mostly decrepit building - under constant and year round repair and reconstruction to both exterior and interior spaces - our experience there was made so much worse by the general mismanagement and half-hearted attempts at repairs by our landlord, Mr. Alonso. It took close to a week for our building manager, Mr. Alonso, to help correct an incident early this spring with the construction crew working on our building, when harmful debris covered the inside of our entire apartment. My wife (newly pregnant at the time) and I were displaced from our apartment for two days while little was done to clean up the damage. As it was mostly concrete, insulation and paint dust that covered our living space, I requested documentation to confirm whether or not lead paint had ever been used. Mr. Alonso's only response was to "trust him" but never provided my wife or I any documentation to confirm this. There were multiple cracks in the ceiling and walls, leeks, and frequent appliance breakdowns and when called to fix such issues, Mr. Alonzo and the owner would only do the bare minimum of what was needed to correct the issue in the immediate short term.

In fact it was only after we decided not to renew our lease for another year, that we saw any timely action from Mr. Alonso, when he decided to charge us for everything he and the owner could. Including, trying to charge us twice for a poor cleaning job done by a cleaning service he himself suggested we use. Mismanagement + dishonesty + cheapness = terrible renting and life experience. Do NOT do business with this person or rent anything at the Willoughby. Really.
